Fireflies Project in China

As we know that the unbalanced development of regional economy is a common problem in countries all around the world. People from different regions acquire knowledge in different ways. In particular, students from remote regions are less likely to have access to latest technology and gain knowledge except from words and pictures. That is the background.

You may be confused when you see the headline and have no idea what Fireflies Project is. Fireflies Project is public welfare programs which is sponsored by Baidu(one of the biggest internet companies in China). Since they want to combine the premium content form Baike with the internet technology to correct the imbalance, one of the Fireflies Project activities is donating thousands of VR headsets to schools in remote regions so that the students there can visit famous museums through the headsets. Even though they aren't able to visit the real museums, they can be educated in a virtual way.

To the poor students in remote regions, having access to VR can definitely broaden their horizon and stimulate their desire for knowledge. Fireflies Project are aware of VR technology's positive influence on education and try their best to enrich theses students' educational experience.
